During the winter months the icebreakers of the Finnish Maritime Administration assist vessels from the sea to the port area and vice verse according to the ice restrictions valid at that time. VTS, pilots and icebreakers in the area give necessary information about the prevailing ice situation. More information can also be seen on the www pages of the Finnish Maritime Administration (www.fma.fi/e/).
The port takes care of the icebreaking of the harbour area at its own cost. In case the ice has been broken in the harbour basin, and the arrival time of the vessel changes so much that the ice breaking of the basin must be repeated, then the vessel shall pay the costs of the second ice breaking.
When the ice has been broken in the basin to the quays, and the vessel cannot in spite of that reach the quay or cannot get out of the quay, the vessel must rely on assistance or towage which shall be paid by the vessel.
