Waste management instructions

All vessels visiting the South and North Ports of Kantvik must comply with this instruction. The instruction does not apply to vessels exempted from the obligation to deposit ship waste (a certificate of exemption must be presented to the port). Vessels are charged a ship waste fee in accordance with the port's waste price list, regardless of whether the vessel deposits ship waste in the port or not.

The Maritime Environmental Protection Act requires that ships must deposit all original waste and cargo residues at port reception facilities in accordance with the unloading regulations based on the MARPOL Convention. The ship must submit a notification at least 24 hours before arrival or immediately upon departure from the previous port if the voyage takes less than 24 hours. The notification informs the port of entry what types of original waste and cargo residues it is depositing. The notification is made in accordance with the format approved by the Finnish Transport Safety Agency to the PortNet system. The waste notification is submitted to the ship clearance department by email. Based on the notification, service providers are ordered for waste for which there is no reception point in the port.
